Almonds for the Holidays

Dec 09, 2021My Store Admin

The United States is currently the largest almond producer, followed by Spain and Australia. Native to Asia, almonds have become the epitome of a health-forward food trend. In the last decade, we have seen a huge surge in almond products on the market. They are nearly impossible to miss in the grocery stores. With rising popularity and controversy, almond milk, in particular, has made the dairy industry nervous over the years. In 2011, there was a 79% increase in almond milk production and the popularity is only on the rise. But aside from milk, non-dairy cheeses, various snacks, and of course, almond butter; baking goods are taking the gluten-free scene by storm. So other than providing vegan and gluten-free options to our everyday foods, what makes almonds so special?

Nutritional Benefits

Almonds contain many vitamins and minerals, amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, and fatty acids. Studies have shown the importance of consuming these ingredients via almonds to have beneficial effects on human health. Snacking on nuts regularly can contribute to health effects against cardiometabolic disease, hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. Almonds are made up of macro and micronutrients with diverse bioactive compounds. These powerhouse plants contain about 50% lipids, 25% proteins, and 20% carbohydrates. Researchers have confirmed the prebiotic capability of almonds. They have been known to regulate lipid and glucose levels providing assistance to regulate body weight and ward off cardiovascular diseases.
